Tamaki recalled yesterday's events in the Third Music Room with a happy smile. He always had a flair for the element of surprise and for being fashionably late given the right circumstances. In his mind, and as it happened, it was beautifully executed and he got exactly what he wanted.

His happy return had been fruitful; he didn't quite understand the looks on everyone's faces, but he had been warmly received.

Now as he sat across his bespectacled classmate that lunchtime at a little shop some ways from the academy, he was also about to get what he wanted.

Pancakes.

...for lunch.

Kyouya looked around the pancake cafe with a blank expression. What was he doing here? At lunch none the less. Kyouya could understand crepes for lunch - but pancakes? Upon finishing his examination of the shop he looked at the blonde from across the table. "Are you still jetlagged Tamaki?" The Shadow King asked with a sort of disbelief on his face.

The day was beautiful, and his lunch period long enough to allow him the luxury of escaping the campus without being missed. Why not bring along a friend, he had previously thought.

"Not at all," the blond in question smiled widely at his friend across him, "I've just had a sudden desire to visit this lovely commoner pancake shop. Actually, I've been craving for pancakes all the while; even in France! But I never had the time.."

Tamaki picked up the cleanly-laminated menu, browsing through page after glossy page of pancakes. Each picture warmed his stomach and whetted his appetite. "Oh, look at this one on the third page, Kyouya!" He excitedly exclaimed, showing the item to the brunette as if the boy hadn't a menu of his own to peruse. "Doesn't this look delicious?"

Crankily, Kyouya wondered why Tamaki had only brought along him when in reality, the third years had much more lunch time than anyone else did. Grudgingly, Kyouya picked up his menu  and his eyes scanned the glossy pictures. This certainly brought back memories – except that time was set at a wagashi store.

“Tamaki, you could have ordered pancakes any time you wanted in France.� The Shadow King muttered. He didn’t have much time to look over the menu before the blonde shoved another menu in front of his own. "How irksome." Kyouya thought pushing the menu aside so he could look at his own.

“How many variations are there on pancakes anyway Tamaki? They all look the same to me – and they basically are.� Kyouya couldn’t help but snap back. He had been pulled away from his lunch break to go eat pancakes. Not his exact idea of lunch.

Tamaki tried his best to control his surprise, yet it was no surprise at all that he failed in doing so. "Kyouya, I'm appalled!" He exclaimed yet again as he set aside his menu to point down at one item on his classmate's. "No pancake is ever made the same, there are a variation of flavors and styles and toppings and even shapes that can be attested to a pancake!

"This one, for example, is a blueberry pancake shaped in the head of a teddybear hence the title 'BlueBeary!'"

“What will the commoners think of next?� Kyouya asked with a mock sense of awe. In actuality, he was quite appalled at the fact that anyone could eat that sort of pancake. Of course the Shadow King had heard of and eaten blueberry pancakes before but never in the shape of…a bear.

Kyouya returned to the menu and indeed saw that Tamaki’s statement was somewhat true. But the names were just as ridiculous and if Kyouya were in the mood for a pancake – it would be a normal one in its regular shape.

"Isn't it adorable, Kyouya?" He asked with another wide grin. "I wonder if they'd make Kuma-chan for me if I showed them a photo. Would they? And look!" He pointed to an item on the next page, "'Hunny Bunny!' Doesn't this look like an exact representation of Honey-senpai's Usa-chan?"

The King lost himself to a babble of how the shop crafted its creations after the loving heart of one Mitsukuni Haninozuka, how everything in its menu was cute, and how wonderful it would be if this shop could be the Club's next outing venue.

"Or maybe we could bring the shop to the Club; I think that would be more beneficial for both sides," the blond rattled on. "What do you think, Kyouya?"

“And how would it benefit us Tamaki?� He asked tiredly, his eyes still scanning the menu listlessly in search of something that didn’t involve the shape of animals. Although, when Tamaki had suggested it, Kyouya could only imagine what the others would say to it. And the outcome would probably result in the shop coming to Ouran.

Unless Tamaki could come up with a reasonable explanation then there was no way that Kyouya would green light the idea.

"Well, this little shop can hardly hold a fraction of our pretty guests that visit our club, you know," the blond continued, business-like, yet his tone remained as that of him speaking lightly; as if he was talking about the difference between amigurumi and ragdolls. "It would be a terribly tight fit to rent out the whole shop and bring everyone over, so why not have them cater and perhaps redecorate the Third Music Room to our liking? Wouldn't our guests like it?

"And about my earlier idea... maybe they could create custom items solely for the Host Club? Like little Kuma-chan pancakes or Usa-chan pancakes.."

And right there was a proper response Tamaki style. Kyouya mentally sighed, of course it didn’t matter to Tamaki about how much the whole set up would actually cost. Not to mention the clean up and there was also the matter of making ‘custom’ items.

The Shadow King’s eyes lit up suddenly with an idea. It would require messing with Tamaki’s head – but when hadn’t he ever enjoyed doing that? Kyouya’s lips curved into a small smile, but he kept his eyes well trained on the menu. “When you speak of custom items, I assume you could mean that the customers could also order Tamaki pancakes?�

"Exactly! There could also be some Kyouya pancakes and Haruhi pancakes and Honey-senpai pancakes..."

Tamaki was pleased that Kyouya was warming up to his idea of a pancake event. He could almost already imagine the sequences as if it were already happening. Beautiful princesses tucking in to host-shaped flat cakes of various flavors...

A light went on in the blond's head, freezing his expression and halting all other trains of thought going about in his mind.

"Hang on," a crease marred the boy's brow, "do you mean these pancakes will be made of us?"

Kyouya couldn’t help but crack another smile when the blonde ate up the line and continued adding to it. Personally, the thought of customers actually eating Host shaped pancakes was a bit disturbing to the Shadow King, but he had to admit that it would probably be a major boost to profits.

When it seemed to Kyouya that Tamaki’s train of thought had come to a screeching halt, Kyouya was trying his best to keep a straight face. "Not what I had in mind, but that was a predictable Tamaki answer.�

“Glad you caught onto the idea Tamaki.� He replied still keeping his eyes on the menu, obstructing the blonde from his line of vision. “For example, a Tamaki pancake would be made of Tamaki. The concept is actually quite easy if you think about it.�

Giant wooden cogs were loudly and slowly creaking in the King's mind as he absorbed the concept presented to him by his companion; and a silence stretched on for what seemed like minutes until...

"But Kyouya, there's only one of me.." the blond started, a troubled look on his features, "And although I appreciate being eaten by beautiful princesses as a pancake, if I get turned into a pancake then there won't be a Tamaki anymore.."

Kyouya waved away the concern as if it was nothing. “Think nothing of it Tamaki.� It was moments like these that Kyouya appreciated the fact that he was able to hold a straight face for such a long time. His tone dropped and he let out a sigh, “But if you surely want to deprive our customers from Host pancakes then I suppose that’s just what will happen if you’re not willing to co-operate.�

If Kyouya knew Tamaki as well as he knew he did, the blonde would be sure to take the bait.

Tamaki's heart filled with sorrow at the thought of his many admirers being denied the chance to devour a part of him. He understood their pain, of trying to attain something unattainable.

"O-of course I would give up my very body for their pleasure," he found himself saying earnestly, looking at Kyouya who had his attention on the menu before him. "It's just that.. if there's none of me left to give, wouldn't the Host Club be one less a member? And what will happen then, when I am gone and the little kittens look for me? Wouldn't they miss me?"
